Hey, Harry Potter was the first I read in English, too! I was in the 7th grade; it was Chamber of Secrets, to this day remains the Harry Potter I read the most time (even though it's not my favorite, I guess it just feels nostalgic to me).

I think I didn't understand much, but I made the effort and today I hate reading in Hebrew if it's not the original language.

ooh~ *high fives*
Mine was Goblet of Fire..I had read it in greek first, but then my English teacher gave me her english copy to read out of curiosity. :3 The difference was too huge. :x Everything was so poorly translated and lacked a lot of things in the local versions I had been reading... >_> There was no turning back from there XD I borrowed all the previous books in english from her to read..and bought my own enlish copies for the last 3 books. >D

I know what you mean! It's so much richer in the original, there's no comparing. And I always loved Brit speak, too. I have all of the series in English, and since then I always buy the original...most of my library is in English, actually.

But, wow, starting with Goblet of Fire is impressive! It's a very big book for your first time reading in English! Chamber of Secrets is tiny...
